STAGE DIRECTOR/TEXTUAL SCHOLAR

Jeff S. Dailey is a stage director and textual scholar who specializes in verse drama. Although noted for his productions of plays by Christopher Marlowe, he has directed works from antiquity to the present day—covering the entire range of dramatic art.

In addition to having directed all the plays of Marlowe, his repertoire includes plays by Shakespeare and Pushkin, mystery plays from the Middle Ages, comedies and tragedies by ancient Greeks and Romans, and his own adaptations of literature from the Sumerians and Anglo-Saxons.

Recent productions include Sophocles’ Ajax, The Bull of Heaven (based on The Gilgamesh Epic), Plautus’ The Captives, and Seafaring—a celebration of Old English poetry.

Dr. Dailey earned his PhD in theatre from New York University. He has also studied at Wagner College, The Folger Institute, The College of Staten Island, New York Theological Seminary, General Theological Seminary, Union Theological Seminary, and The New School for Social Research. He has been trained in a wide range of textual methodologies, including biblical exegesis and New Historicism, and a variety of voice training systems. He is the founder of the Long Island Student Shakespeare Festival and Spirited Shakespeare workshops.
